    In the wake of the recent protests in Iran, thousands have been detained, hundreds have been beaten, dozens have been killed, prisoners have been systematically abused, and yet the questions of ethical responsibility and political accountability have gone unanswered.  The current panel will labour to address some of these concerns and hopefully will lay the ground for future considerations of these matters.

    Water Rafting on Ottawa River

    Friday to Sunday

     August 21-23, 2009

    Renfrew, Ontario 

    Dear members, 
     
    IAUT is organizing a 2-day 3-night camping and water rafting trip on Ottawa River. We will drive to the resort Friday afternoon/evening, will camp for the night, will raft on Saturday and camp for another night. It is also possible to camp with the group without taking the rafting trip. We will drive to Ottawa on Sunday for a city tour. We will visit the Parliament Hill and will get a tour inside the parliament building.  We also will have our lunch in Ottawa on Sunday and will visit a museum there if we get enough time before heading back to Toronto. 

    Time: 6pm Friday, August 21st to 10pm Sunday, August 23rd, 2009                                       

    Location: RiverRun rafting resort, Renfrew, Ontario                                                                                             

    Carpooling: 6 pm at Villaways Park (East Don River park) parking lot at North-West corner of Leslie and Sheppard (across Leslie subway station). If you need a ride or want to give ride to people in your car please contact Morteza Tehrani, the event coordinator, at 416-826-7814.

    Professor Jahanbegloo will discuss the issues surrounding confessions and confessing in juxtaposition with the recent political goings-on of Iran.  For the first time, too, he will discuss his own experiences with confessions while in solitary confinement in the notorious Evin Prison.
